Ross McCarry

Ross McCarry was born in Leamington Spa, England in 1981. In 2005 he graduated with a Fine Art degree from Manchester Metropolitan University, before qualifying to teach Art and Design in 2011.

His work is primarily concerned with mediation and rarity, dealing with publishing and print as well as notions of the digital and analogue. He considers that in order for a work of Art to be communicated to a wider audience, it is to be published in some way or form. The artist believes that this published form is as important as the artwork, and that both should be celebrated, if not reconciled in some way.

Having lived in Taipei for almost 3 years, he has been DJing without his records. Instead, he has had to download his precious vinyl as MP3s, which involves using virtual DJ software on his laptop. Having published various digital mixes online, he has recently decided to draw the sleeves of the records from both memory and online images. The drawings are drawn with a wax based pencil, ‘Karisma’, which is no longer in production and now as limited as the original vinyl records.
