Ian Hsieh

Ian(Ching-an) Hsieh born in Taoyuan, Taiwan 1979. He started his painting life at the moment he learned to hold a pen as he has been a vegetarian since he was born. Painting brings him great joys and satisfaction which further encourages him to study in art. Graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design with BA and MA in Fine Art, an avid traveler with footprints in over 300 cities, Ian adapts a multifaceted view of the world from numerous cultures he encountered, his love for the fine arts steers his works. As far as his expression is concerned, by utilizing the natural flow of oils, a sense of voguish style and spontaneity is created in Ian Hsieh’s works, as the emotional and the rational are intertwined in the flowing lines of landscapes. With a unique creative lexicon, as well as special media and colors, a more imaginative realm is opened up for a living space.

As early as approximately 2,500 years ago, the ancient Greek philosopher Thales of Miletus believed that in all material things, there existed a kind of hidden substance that could not ever be changed. However, at the time Thales believed that this eternal substance was water, which has no relation with modern understandings of mass and energy. Empedocles believed the universe to be composed of four elements (fire, wind, water, and earth), and that "not one increases or decreases, " rather that these elements remain in state of constant reorganization. The above is where the concept of the work “Conservation of Energy” series shown in Sublimation of Boundaries International Contemporary Art Exhibition is derived.
