HKUN Solo Exhibition

April 25 2015 - May 30 2015

May 24th 2015 R. Gallery opens HKUN’s solo exhibition to the public. In our two floor gallery we display 13 of the artist’s latest works.

HKUN was born in Taipei in 1967, graduated from the National College of Art in Rome, Italy in 1996 and returned to Taiwan in 2000 to establish his career as a painter. Very Taiwanese in spirit and content, Kuo’s works still reveal the young painter’s education in Bernini’s Rome through the almost architectural compositions and references to building plans and interior design motives. The subject matter of Kuo’s work is undeniably Taiwanese and investigates the cultural characteristics of the island of Taiwan, it’s migration history and the nation’s ways of thinking and producing.

The paintings are creation of complex mediums and often use ready-made objects in collage technique. In spite of that they present simplified environments in which a historical interpretation of the human spirit can take place.
